Adaptions by Jack

On friday we responded to the feedback of the class by adding or extension of the club and pre-drinks scene to emphasise the swapping of identity and the reason for the character of Horatio wanitng to change his life. Ths scene involved a split stage of Danny in his room and Brittnay getting redy for the girls to come over. The scene altenates betwen Brittany getting ready and getting out drinks, nibbles and music and it alternates with Danny getting out his meal for one, his cup of tea and looking for the Buble album. this worked well to establish the difference in their lives and why Hortio's life is bad and wants to change it.

We also changed the entrance to the club scene to really show the swapping of the IDs and the significance of this by making Brittany and Danny spin around each other and take one anothers places then spin back to normal positions and Danny hands over his ID to Britany,

These extensions work well to show the motive behind the character of Horatio.

Individual Blog post Brittany Measor

In todays lesson we managed to get through a full run through and present this to the class to gain feedback before our final showing on what we could make better and ensuring that the structure was understandable and ready for our final performance.

One point that was made was the good characterisation throughout the entirety of the piece. Although, it was commented on how myself and Danny could show the transformation in a stronger manner through characterisation. For example, slowly losing my feminine qualities and these turning into more masculine behaviour such as how I eat my food in the Horatio and Brittany scenes. Another suggestion was adding different regional dialect to mine and Danny's characters and both of us slowly adapting to these accents to ensure the transformation is more apparent and easier to see from the audience.

Another comment was how a couple of members within our class feel as though the story line is slightly lost in the beginning of our play and how we need a key scene to show the major step in transformation. Although, the run through was done without costumes and props and feel as though one these have been added it will make the transformation clearer. For instance, the idea of myself starting in a pink shirt and Danny starting in a blue shirt, half way through the performance we will both be seen in a mutual colour of purple to show the transformation mid way through and then eventually swapping shirts resulting in myself in a blue shirt and Danny in a pink one.

Continuing on from the comment with the performance being shown without costume and props, I feel as though the full run through needs to be completed with both props and costume to ensure that it will run smoothly and explain the story line appropriately throughout.

Another suggestion made by a member of the audience was how our structure is very episodic and too choppy. We thought perhaps the idea of each character almost constantly being on stage, showing the audience the costume change and there for character change and also showing the audience the props we will be using before necessarily using them. We tried this our the previous lesson and managed to create a smooth run through the first few scenes, although we decided not to show the audience this yet as it is not yet quite completed and doesn't run as smoothly as we need.

Some  comments were made on how they really enjoyed the change in naturalism throughout our piece and how it engages the audience thoroughly. Overall, I am happy with the performance we gave today and am feeling positive towards our final performance. The feedback we gained also allowed us to concentrate on the overall audience's views on what they see and as to whether this was what we were planning on portraying to our audience.
